FAS (First and Seconds): The FAS grade will provide the user with long, wide, clear cuttings.
Best suited for high quality furniture, interior trim, millwork and solid wood moldings.
The FAS grade includes a range of boards which yield from 83-1/3% to 100% clear wood in cuttings at least 3" wide by 7' long or 4' wide by 5' long.
Characteristics: While most often sold unselected for color, some users specify Sap Birch (all sap or white wood cuttings) or Red Birch (all heartwood cuttings), because of the distinct color difference between the sapwood and heartwood.
Sometimes birch shows very small pin knots and often shiny burl wood.
Color: Sapwood is creamy-white or yellowish tinged; heartwood is light reddish brown.
Texture: Uniform, fine grain pattern, medium weight, excellent in turning, machines easily.
Grade in Stock: FAS, not selected for color.

Characteristics: Oaks are open-pored and produce dramatic grain patterns in sawn lumber.
Some boards may have dark mineral streaks, produced during the natural growth of the tree, which are permitted in the cuttings.
Occasionally, very small, pink pin knots will be present.
Color: Sapwood is palw white; heartwood varies from a light pink to a dark reddish brown.
Texture: Very hard and strong.
Easy to run, sands well, excellent in bending.
Very pronounced, coarse grain pattern, high shock resistance.
Grade in Stock: FAS.

Color: The sapwood is creamy-white to off-white sometimes tinged slightly with reddish-brown; tan or very light grayish-brown heartwood sometimes streaked with darker mineral colors.
Texture: Close-grained, uniform texture; polishes well.
Grade in Stock: FAS.

Texture: Very uniform, the softness and evenness of the grain make it excellent for molding, machining and gluing.
Grade in Stock: FAS.

Characteristics: Extremely hard, heavy and strong, exceptional reistance to shock and abrasive wear; popular commercial species of hardwood for truck decking and gates.
Color: The sapwood is reddish-brown and the heartwood is deep reddish-maroon.
Texture: Very hard and strong, fine grain pattern, heavy weight, slight sap extraction.
Grade in Stock: FAS.

Solid Apitong Decking: Malaysian hardwood product for open flatbad trailers and ocean containers.
This hardwood is very stable and resists warping under extreme conditions.
